This centre is the oldest Community Service project of the Rotary Club of Madras established in 1944.
It is predominantly a Women Empowerment center where various skills like Tailoring, Embroidery, Computer etc., are taught to help them become independent. Several hundred women have benefitted from this programme. Besides this several teachers are hired to help school going children in the area to improve their grades in school. Tuition in all subjects are given to these children, which has resulted in a marked improvement in their performance. Several children have achieved high grades in their schools.
The Rotary Nagar is a beehive of activity. Tailoring classes for women are oversubscribed with a waiting list of registrations stretching to over 200. Two batches of trainees have completed the course — 80 in number. Third batch of 32 will complete the course by June, Our regular activity there namely tuition to school going children reached an all-time high of 215 registrations. We have 9 teachers who are either graduates or post graduates. Classes are conducted in 3 shifts to cater to this large number. Results of the tuition center children in the quarterly and half yearly exams has been encouraging.
